I Warned Bush/Cheney & The American Media That Iraqis Would Never Accept the American Invasion or Occupation
Sam Hamod, Ph.D.
June 13, 2005

Long ago, before the invasion of Iraq, I sent letters to Bush and Cheney stating that Iraq would never allow an American occupation. They didn’t listen, nor did any of the major media when I phoned them and talked with the editors at Washington Post, NY Times, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, NPR and PBS; what they all did was to ignore me, though I am one of the most educated scholars on Islam in the United States and a former advisor to the U.S. State Department and the only American born person to ever be the Director of The Islamic Center of Washington, DC (the focal point of Islam in North America when I was Director there in the 1980s).

These vain and ignorant men, Bush and Cheney have followed the advice of another ignorant, or was he just cunning to dupe them, Paul Wolfowitz—and now they have gotten thousands of Americans killed in Iraq, many thousands more have been maimed for life and more thousands have been poisoned by “Depleted Uranium” (which is a misnomer because Depleted Uranium basically is never depleted—it goes on killing and poisoning humans and other life for over a million years!), and others have been psychologically devastated enough that they will never again be “normal” human beings and this will affect their lives and the lives of their loved ones until their deaths. The Bush/Cheney team is also responsible for the death of over 100,000 Iraqis, more will die from Depleted Uranium and others are so scarred psychologically that the next two generations of Iraqis will have so much hatred for America that they will never get over it.

Add to this that the Bush/Cheney team has also created chaos in Iraq—a chaos that will lead to more bloodshed in time. The oil they thought they would get so easily, will fall from their grasp, and they will be despised all over the Muslim world—not simply the Arab world. Muslims in the world, at least 90% or more, are united in their anger at the U.S. and its leadership; they have long since decided the American people are complicitous because they re-elected Bush, or did not complain when he possibly stole the second election, as he stole the first election. Add to this that the Democrats have done little to stop him, and in fact, many , like Tom Lantos, Joe Lieberman, King of NY, and others have supported Bush in his illegal moves into Iraq and his abuse of Muslim prisoners in Guantanamo and in Iraq.

What this all means is that this adventure by the Bush/Cheney team was based on lies perpetrated by Cheney and Wolfowitz and their friends who said the Iraqis would welcome the Americans with cheers and flowers. All of who know the Muslim, Arab and Iraqi culture knew better—but we were not listened to, and our major media kept us out of the newspapers and off the TV and radio airwaves so that our doubts could not stop this madness.

At this point, then, as an American citizen, I condemn the Bush/Cheney team, the major American media—from the newspapers, to the TV and radio media for being part of this terrible and lie-filled war because our media did not ask questions except in a few instances (i.e., Helen Thomas and few others—but even they were drowned out by the sycophants who kissed Bush’s feet—and still do to this day, especially the propagandists at Fox news). These people should all be taken to an international court for their treason to America and their illegal and immoral attack on Iraq. They should also be sued by every American and Iraqi family who lost a loved one, by any of them who have a maimed family member or have been psychologically damaged by this invasion and occupation of Iraq—anything less would be unjust.

It is time for the major media to wake up and fulfill their responsibilities, even if it is very late in the game. If they don’t, then their burden of guilt must increase exponentially because the lies have all been known to them for months, the deaths and Iraqi counterattacks are increasing every day and American and Iraqi casualties are growing larger and larger.

To the American public, media and politicians, I say, IT IS TIME TO THROW THE RASCALS OUT AND PROSECUTE THEM BEFORE THEY DO ANY MORE HARM TO AMERICA, ITS CITIZENS AND TO IRAQ AND ITS CITIZENS.
