An Ode of Remembrance (for Jennifer Alfrey Collins and the memories of her) remember Jennifer when we rode in your little maroon car, drove gunning those tires past 80 running over piles of birds pell-mell into Walsh – you, switching gears and shifting that clutch like Andretti. the sun setting over stacks of grain elevators and we sat there laughing, reckless breathless in love with Rick Springfield, Fletcher and Oaks and Bon Jovi. we packed that car with teen bodies , music , smoke, and abandon in route to games, boyfriends. life. independence and our periods. falling through that sphere between little girls and womanhood. time stopped as we balanced on a wire - you were loved with your deep hair wide smile and unfurled curls -- always Up Up Up reaching far into the heavens with cocoa streaked eyes a heart full of roses - - your heart’s light continues - - contacting touching down through the tenderness of a petal suspended and blooming in time for all of us you have left behind – you are years ahead of us trailing air on spring's winds – whispering into and out of our lives c: Kristen Scott, 5.29.10 Kristen Scott is a poet, critic and literary agent; she has an M.A.in English and is working on her MFA at National University.
