India and Pakistan: Understanding the Tightrope
Sam Hamod
The India/Pakistan threat of war is very serious; it could lead to a world-wide calamity with each side calling on allies for assistance. Both nations are walking a tightrope, let's hope no one falls or jumps off to the detriment of both.

U.S. Role in Middle East Peace; Image and Reality
Hanan Ashrawi
There is a significant difference between the myth and the reality of America's role in the peace talks between Palestine and Israel. Palestinians must stand up to both Sharon's Israel and to America in order to achieve their autonomous statehood.

The Holidays & Peace -- Maybe Next Year
Samah Jabr
Palestinians, both Muslim and Christian have been so brutalized by Israel that even the holidays don't seem the same anymore.
Perhaps clergy from around the world may lead the way to world peace because secular governments haven't done it.

Creating Peace in the Middle East
Gershon Baskin, Ph.D.
The bottoms-up approach may give us new energies for peace in the Middle East, even though we have become exhausted by the past few years of disappointment with negotiations in the Middle East.

President Bush as Counterproductive Bully
Peter Andreos, Ph.D., retired
President Bush is perceived, even by some of our allies, as a bully by pushing sovereign nations, such as Yemen, to accept American troops on their soil to "hunt out terrorists." This may counterproductive to America in the long run.

Sharon as Provocateur
Sam Hamod
Ariel Sharon is the real terrorist in the Middle East conflict.
Because of Bush's support and passivity toward Sharon's terrorism, America will eventually lose the respect of the rest of the world which will lead to her loss of prestige and power.

Another Crack in the Muslim World
Sam Hamod
It appears there are more cracks within the unity of Islam, this week evidenced by the support of Pakistan for China's crackdown on Muslim separatists in the northwestern province of China, also called East Turkestan. But if we look closer at the situation, some things may change and the so-called Muslim leaders (esp. the kings, princes, etc.) may be replaaced by the truly Muslim concept called democracy from the populace.

The Bin Laden Tape
Sam Hamod
The tape the U.S. Government has shown implicates Bin Laden as either a planner or supporter of the 911 attacks; in Islam, intention is part of good or guilt--in this case then, on either count, Bin Laden is guilty of evil because of his act or his praise of these evil acts of 911. Now it is time for Bush to step up and stop Sharon, and thus, Hamas, from further acts of terrorism in the Middle East.--that is, if Bush is truly a Christian.

Sharon's Real Intentions: To Kill Arafat
Sam Hamod
Sharon is the real terrorist in the Middle East; he has wanted to kill Arafat and the Palestinian movement since the 80s.
President Bush must intercede before this situation is even worsened. It is ironic that at this time, when all religions are celebrating God and their blessings that many of their followers are at war. Only if the major leaders of the 3 faiths stand up and say STOP; only then will we have a chance for "peace on earth and goodwill toward all men."

Afghan Overview
Sam Hamod
The situation in Afghanistan is still fluid, but Bin Laden and the Taliban have been defeated. However, the Afghan people may still suffer unless food and aid get through before the harshness of winter is upon the land; Bush could help by having American troops guard the trucks bringing in food and aid to protect them from warlords and bandits.

Bin Laden in his Cave
Sam Hamod
An American-Arab-Muslim writer's view of the situation in the world today. We are all tired of the psychobabble of the media and the U.S. government with respect to the devil Bin Laden; this can go on forever.

Understanding Tribalism in Afghanistan
Sam Hamod
Afghanistan 101: Bush and Rumsfeld should understand that the Afghans have a tribal society that they know little about. Karzai and others will live in Afghanistan, they will know better how to solve their internal problems than will the Americans.

The Courageous Women In Black
Sam Hamod
The Women in Black stand in silent witness for peace, knowing that bloodshed leads only to more bloodshed, not to peace.
Bush, Sharon and Arafat must understand this before the whole world sheds more blood.

Sheer Brutality Between Sharon and the Palestinians
Sam Hamod
Sharon's bestial behavior toward the Palestinians and their reprisals will lead only to more death and destruction--not to peace. Surely President Bush should see this. It is difficult why Bush is so blind to the evil of Sharon.

Copernicus Knew Arabic
Dr. Sam Hamod
desciption
Copernicus, because he knew the lingua franca of science at the time, which was Arabic, knew of the work of Muslim astronomers who corrected Ptolomey's theories before him; thus, he took from them without giving them proper credit for their work.
